A few words from Philippe et Julie

Since May last year, picking up a casserole from l’escargot bleu has been a highlight that marks the end of the working from home week for us.

Since going out hasn’t been an option, staying in with tasty food has been Plan B, and what a great job Fred and Betty have made of it. They’ve adapted at every stage: adjusting, refining and finessing their approach; updating the menu to reflect what’s eating well, and what Fred knows will be good, while keeping a few regular favourites in place.

Terrine, fish soup, and mutton casserole in all its forms have become firm favourites, and it was great fun to assemble our own steak tartare. Of course, the chocolate mousse… And we need to say extra special thanks to Fred for the lengths he went to in sourcing the very best poultry for his customers at Christmas – that Poularde de Bresse! This is restaurant-quality food at home with no fuss.

Neighbourhood restaurants are an essential part of the community. There’s no impersonal internet ordering – it’s a human on the other end of the phone, Sophie or Betty, which says it all. We know that when we order from Fred and Betty, it’s not just their restaurant we are supporting, but also the other members of the bleu team and that fantastic supply chain of producers, across Scotland and beyond.

There are certain small businesses that we really, really want to still be there on the other side of all of this. For us, l’escargot bleu is at the top of that list.
