Our festive cheese on a lovely board - a surprise gift from loyal customer Anna!

Deux jours et demi

Here we are on the last stretch to close 2020. Betty and have just enjoyed Christmas with the kids, Bertrand our oldest chef, and Matilde’s flatmate Leonie. We had two and a half days off (a proper holiday in the current climate) where Betty and I managed to switch off and have some quality time en famille with earthy food, wine, a little bit of Champagne, lots of cheese and Christmas logs.

I loved the chickens. I roasted two birds from l’escargot bleu’s larder, both beautiful, as was everything else. I cannot complain. Everything was of great provenance and high quality. If you ordered from us for Christmas, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

It feels weird to have two and half days off in the same week. Today (Sunday), I have completed this week’s menu and have emailed some orders. Tomorrow, I will turn on the stove on again at l’escargot bleu to make a head start for this week’s take away.

By the time you read this, the menu will be ready to view on our website (link below). Sophie is taking the orders this week and the line is open on Monday 28 from 10am to 1pm, then 2pm to 4pm. And again on Tuesday 29 from 10am to 1pm. So do not miss out! Collections and deliveries will be on Thursday 31 only, not before and not after! We have decided to go a bit further than the usual two miles for delivery from now on, so get in touch with your postcode, and we will consider!

Again this week, I will have another two and a half days off and we shall begin 2021 as a take-away business, returning to our normal opening hours for orders and delivery on Thursday and Friday. No big changes apart from delivery distance.

I’m at a bit of a loss for words. 2020 has been awful in many ways. We have not had a holiday, we have not visited our friends at home, we have not seen our families and our holiday house in France has been left mostly unattended since summer 2019. But we are healthy and busy. We have received huge support and thanks. We have moved from being a restaurant to some kind of social enterprise on a mission to deliver the best of Scotland as take-away meals. Long may it continue.

I shall take this opportunity to thank you all. There is a huge list, but you know who you are. Thank you for the help, the support, the orders, the kind words and the motivation, the products, the ingredients and the passion received throughout 2020. I will march into 2021 with a strong fighting spirit, with happiness, and of course with lots of good, healthy food.

Bonne année et a bientôt

Fred ☺️
